Tuya Unveils Doova: An AI Companion Robot Targeting Elder Care and Smart Home Hubs
Sixty Seconds, Then Your Phone Rings
Read the emergency flow from the family's side. The senior calls out, the robot rolls over and looks, and if nothing happens for sixty seconds it places a video call to a relative. The robot is not the responder. The adult child is, on a phone, possibly two states away. That is true of every monitoring product on the market, and Doova at least says it plainly.
The useful parts are the unglamorous ones. Reading a confusing bill aloud, flagging a scam letter, a medication reminder, a summary of the house sent to a phone. Each of those exists today as a separate device or app, without wheels, and Tuya has not said what the bundle will cost or when it ships. An announcement at a trade show is a promise, and this one is careful not to make the humanoid kind.
Two questions before any family should care. Does the video from the living room stay in the house or travel to a cloud, and can the thing cross a rug. Humanoids Daily asked both. Tuya has answered neither.
