Eric Topol on the Science and Grift of 'Super Aging'

The appointment, not the molecule

The number worth carrying out of this one: most Americans spend their last fifteen years sick. Healthspan ends around 64; lifespan runs to 79. The anti-aging industry sells that gap back to you as a problem of supplements and biohacks. Topol's correction is that the real levers are boring and mostly free — sleep, movement, social connection, immune resilience — and that the single most actionable item for a caregiver isn't a longevity pill at all. It's the shingles vaccine, which the data now ties to a 20–25% drop in dementia risk. That's not a someday-breakthrough. That's a phone call to your parent's doctor this week. The grift in this space always points at the molecule you can buy. The science keeps pointing at the appointment you can make.
